La Fortuna is beautiful year-round, but depending on what you’re looking for, different seasons offer very different experiences. Here’s what you need to know to choose.
Dry season (December to April). This is the most popular time of year. Sunny days, clear skies, and a better chance of seeing Arenal Volcano without clouds. Ideal if you want hiking, adventure, and crisp landscape photos. Since it’s high season, it’s best to book in advance.
Green season (May to November). Don’t let the word “rain” fool you. It usually rains in the afternoons, leaving clear mornings and a lush, vibrant, deep-green rainforest full of life. Fewer visitors, friendlier prices, and nature at its most vibrant.
What about wildlife? It’s present year-round. Frogs and nightlife, in fact, become even more active during the wetter months.
Our honest recommendation: if you want guaranteed sunshine, come during the dry season. If you’re after peace and quiet, lush nature, and better prices, the green season is a well-kept secret.
